Cellulite: An annoyance for everyone
Did you know coconut oil can eliminate cellulite?
It’s just one of those problems that seems to persist. No matter how much you eat healthfully and exercise regularly, it’s always there on your hips, thighs, glutes and abs. It doesn’t matter if you’re thin, heavier or at your ideal weight. Age isn’t a factor, either – cellulite plagues every kind of body type, from teens to middle age.
This special type of subcultaneous fat appears like a bag of cottage cheese stuck to your body, thanks to the structure of connective tissue in those areas. It creates an unattractive dimpled look on your skin that makes more than a few women self-conscious. Some get downright scared to wear revealing clothes, like swimsuits and shorts.
Stretch marks: Definitely not beauty marks
Another problem is the presence of stretch marks. Often resulting from being overweight or pregnant, these striations on your skin are most noticeable when you’re out in bright sunny weather. Some women try to cover them with concealer, which eventually wears off. When all else fails, they’ll often just cover up or leave their more revealing summer wear at home.
Unfortunately, because stretch marks are scars, they won’t disappear completely. But you can moisturize the problem areas and make them less visible
With spring here and summertime just around the corner, you don’t want those issues. Luckily, you can use coconut oil to fight cellulite and stretch marks.
Cellulite and stretch marks: How coconut oil can remove both
Using coconut oil for cellulite and stretch marks
Here are some topical strategies from Stylecraze, WellnessMama and Dr. Axe to remove those unwanted fat pockets and minimize the appearance of unsightly marks from your body. Try them before you head out to the beach, pool or your favorite place in the sun.
For an extra measure of treatment, you might also want to try adding coconut oil to your diet to increase your metabolism and thyroid functioning, which can help in fat burning and increased energy.
1. Apply it directly to the skin
This is the simplest method – and most intuitive – to reduce cellulite and stretch marks. Your skin will absorb the coconut oil and aid in the breakdown of the dimples. It will also just make your skin softer and increase its moisture. However, it’s not always the fastest way. You may instead want to try this trick and possibly speed up the process:
2. Dry brush
This method will make your skin feel revitalized as well as take care of unsightly cellulite:
Things you’ll need
- Raw Organic Coconut Oil
- A vegetable-based natural bristle brush
- Smooth the coconut oil onto the target areas
- Take the brush and work the oil into your skin, using circular strokes
- For the abdominal area, brush, counterclockwise for the added benefit of stimulating digestion
- Make sure you brush gently and avoid scrubbing
You can dry brush either before or after a shower, but afterwards might help your immunity by stimulating your lymph nodes and eliminate cellulite-causing toxins at the cellular level.
3. Make a coffee-coconut oil scrub
This almost sounds too delicious to use as a body treatment, but it’s worth a shot to get rid of cellulite. It will work as an exfoliating product, hydrator and lymphatic stimulator.
- ¼ cup Organic Coffee Grounds
- 3 tablespoons Sugar (white or brown)
- 2 to 3 tablespoons of melted warm Raw Organic Coconut Oil
- Mix all the above ingredients in a small bowl
- Keep it in a glass jar until it’s needed
- Briefly it up in the microwave for about 10 seconds
- Gently scrub the mix into the affected areas
- Wash off after 10 to 15 minutes.
For best results, use this treatment two to three times a week.
4. Combine essential oil and coconut oil
Try this hydrating and fragrant dynamic duo.
- 1 tablespoon emulsified Raw Organic Coconut Oil
- A few drops of your favorite essential oil (citrus works best here)
- Mix the two ingredients together
- Rub it into the affected areas
- Allow the mixture to absorb
This mixture will help minimize the appearance of subcutaneous fat and moisturize stretched out skin. Dr. Axe specifically recommends grapefruit oil to address this issue.
Specific help for stretch marks
Because of coconut oil’s ability to absorb quickly and deeply into the skin, it’s more effective than using other types of oil and store-bought lotions. The saturated fats can fortify skin cell structure and make the skin’s surface appear healthier. Coconut oil can also combat free radicals in these cells and reduce the appearance of the scars.
To use coconut oil for stretch marks, simply rub it onto your body where they appear, twice a day. Use it when you first notice the marks, such as when your belly begins to expand in the later stages of pregnancy. If you already have them, try mixing it with warmed virgin coconut oil before going to bed. Take off the excess with a washcloth soaked in mildly warm water.
Using coconut oil, you’ll soon find your favorite way to get rid of cellulite and stretch marks. Before long, your skin and body will look sexy and beach-ready.
